Serial Number Search

If you have initiated a Collateral Search, you are brought to the Collateral Search page, which is a combination search page that allows you to submit multiple types of Collateral Searches. To search for liens registered against a Serial Number(s) (i.e., VIN) or for registered ownership details, complete the remaining steps:

  1. Scroll to the Serial Number Search section.

  2. In the first row of the Serial Number Search section, enter what details you know about the collateral in the applicable fields:

    Serial Number (VIN)
    Year
    Make
    License Plate
(If registered owner search required.  Please note that there are limitations to the MVB Registry)
    Vehicle Registration Number
    (for province of BC)

  3. Ensure the PPSA checkbox is selected.

  4. To have the history of registered ownership returned on the vehicle, select (check) the Registered Owner checkbox. Please note, however, that only authorized requestors can obtain Registered Owner searches.

  5. For the province of BC, you can order an ICBC (Insurance Corporation of British Columbia) report. Select (check) the ICBC Damage checkbox.

  6. You can enter additional serial numbers to conduct searches on by repeating the above steps in additional rows in the section. To add a new row, click the Add button. To delete a row, click its delete button ().

  7. If another Collateral Search type is to be submitted, then complete the appropriate section:

    Business Debtor Search
    Individual Debtor Search
    Registration Number Search (excluding Ontario)
    CSRA Search (Ontario only)
    Manufactured Home Search (BC only)
    Aircraft Search (BC only)

  8. For the province of Saskatchewan, in the Options section, there is the Automated search checkbox, which allows for exact matches to be returned (the Saskatchewan Personal Property Registry returns only exact matches in automated mode). Not selecting the checkbox will return similar matches, and will delay your results as the process is not automated.

    or

  1. For certain provinces, in the Options section, you have the option to request a certified government print.

  2. In the Additional Instructions section, you have the option of entering any extra information or comments (note that doing so will force the search into a manual queue at D+H, thereby affecting the turnaround time).

  3. See Reviewing and Submitting Search Order.
